St. John FAQ's

Everyone arrives on St John by ferry. There are three ferries from St Thomas to St John, Cruz Bay. The Red Hook ferry, Charlotte Amalie Ferry and the Crown Bay Ferry. Ferry schedules are subject to change. The Red Hook ferry is about a 45 minute taxi ride from the airport and a 20-30 minute ferry ride to St John. This ferry operates the most frequently and the seas tend to be calmer. The Crown Bay ferry is about a 5 minute taxi ride from the airport and a 45 minute ferry ride to St John.  The Charlotte Amalie ferry is about an 8 minute taxi ride from the airport and a 45 minute ferry ride to St. John.  The seas can be rougher on these two ferries.

Please always make sure your flight arrival and departure times work with the current ferry schedules. You can find the current ferry schedules on the VI Now website – www.vinow.com
We highly recommended having your Global Entry card on your if you travel to St. John. The airport customs will have 3 lines upon departure. One for drivers licenses, one for passports and one for Global Entry. During season this can save you hours in line. Everyone must have Global Entry to enter that line and there card on hand. We also strongly recommend TSA precheck as well as wait times in the winter can be longer then usual. We also offer private water taxis and transfers.
Local transportation by taxi or rental car. We drive on the left here so take your time!
No you do not need a Passport to travel to the USVI but if you are looking to experience seeing the British Virgin Islands you will need one.

While St. John is a beach town visitors are expected to cover up and wear shoes in town. Beach wear is reserved for the beach. As well it is suggested to greet everyone you meet with a Good Morning, Good Afternoon or Good Night!

Most villas on St. John collect rain water. Please make sure your villa has proper filtration. It is advised to only drink bottled water if these filters are not in place.

The USVI has made a law banning certain sunscreens in the territory.  Sunscreens containing the three Os — oxybenzone, octocrylene and octinoxate – harm our coral reefs and are (thankfully) banned in the territory.

Cell phone service can be spotty depending where you are located on island. There will be places regardless of what service you have that your phone just simply will not work. AT&T seems to be the most trustworthy.

Villas, condos and hotels have not been allowed to be built on the National Park beaches, but not every beach on the island is included in the Park and we do offer one home on a non-park beach, Cruz on Inn (Back link this) in Great Cruz Bay. We also offer some beautiful homes within an easy drive to the National Park beaches. Fortunately there are no condos on the beaches of St John.
